Klafs completes spa installation at The Faena Hotel in Miami

Miami’s Faena Hotel, formerly the Saxony, has re-opened its doors following a massive renovation that included the unveiling of its newly designed spa.

The Tierra Santa Healing House, the Faena's 22,000 square foot spa facility, intends to focus on healing and the improvement of health and wellbeing.

Its design was realised by German spa and sauna company Klafs. Design for Leisure is Klafs' official partner for the US, and as such, designed and built the project.

The Klafs installation included the Profi Sauna - a traditional Finnish sauna, the Profi steam room - a Roman steam bath and an East Asian hammam.

The Profi sauna, was designed to reach high temperatures of 70-100 degrees celsius (158-212 degrees fahrenheit) whilst maintaining low humidity levels.

The sauna was fitted using Bonatherm VS, an under-bench heating system designed to keep users safe. The placement of the heater beneath the benches protects from accidental burns and allows for additional room in the sauna.

The Profi steam room takes influences from classical Roman baths and is designed to maintain a lower temperature, 40-43 degrees celsius (104-109 degrees fahrenheit) with 100 percent humidity levels.

The steam room has a free standing room-in-room cabin design and was constructed using highly insulated hard foam building boards.

The hammam area, where guests can be treated to a traditional soap massage, includes two L-shaped, warming marble benches and also features an extravagant dome ceiling, in which a number of sparkling LED lights have been installed to give the appearance of a starry night sky.

The spa also features a round ice cave and a waterfall room for guests to cool off in, a tepidarium to prepare for heat experiences and a dozen spa treatment rooms.
